Sonam Kapoor Talks About Her Love For Copy Iwc Timepieces Over Fries

How would you style the fake ‘Da Vinci’ watch for the day?
It’s such a classic timepiece that it really works with everything. Even with a simple, organic sari by Anamika Khanna or with an ensemble by Péro, Anuradha Vakil, Abu Sandeep or Gaurav Gupta.

How would you style an IWC Schaffhausen watch for the night?
I love the ‘Portofino Automatic Moonphase’ watch with a rose gold Milanese bracelet and 37 mm dial. It would look really good with a suit, although I’m wearing it with a Ralph & Russo printed gown and jacket at the IWC Schaffhausen gala tonight.

How is IWC Schaffhausen a brand you can relate to?
I’m really excited because of their brand values. Their pieces are collectors items with beauty, perfection, precision and great engineering. This is the definition of luxury for me. I think it’s important to have and collect one or two classic pieces like this.

How strong is your wrist game?
I usually like to wear just one statement piece, such as this watch for example. But if I’m stacking, I’d add a Cartier Love bracelet and some evil eye pieces by my mother.

The brand is known for its high adrenaline copy ‘Pilot’ watches that are quite masculine. How would you advise women to carry them off?
Today, I think sportswear has become the new luxury wear and street style. It’s all about athleisure. Look at Yeezy by Kanye West and Fenty X Puma, there are so many other great designers doing this too. People are even wearing sportswear on the red carpet now! I think the more active and masculine watches work really well with today’s wardrobe.

The ‘Da Vinci’ collection is inspired by the 1980s, borrowing design codes from the earlier editions of the timepiece. What do you love from that time period?
Shoulder pads, Madonna, George Michael and of course Anil Kapoor!

What was the first best iwc fake watches you ever wore?
I was gifted a Mickey Mouse watch from Switzerland.

What is on your Geneva to-do list before you dash off to Dubai?
I need to go to Sprüngli to buy some chocolate covered almonds and my favourite hazelnut gianduja gaufrettes.
